Biography: David Foster

"I think everyone gets three rounds in their lifetime," says musician, composer, arranger, producer and recording artist David Foster. “For me, two are complete and I'm in the third round. I think you have to change it every round. My mantra is to back off and attack in a different direction, which I've done twice already. Now I will do it again.

Foster's early career began as a studio musician, arranger and recording artist. His second round was to become one of the most successful songwriters and record producers in history, with albums cumulatively selling hundreds of millions of copies. During this phase of his four-decade career, he also established the David Foster Foundation and volunteered his time and talent to over 400 charities. "I think Broadway and I are a perfect match," he says. “The story becomes the co-author. For me it's a new adventure and creative opportunity that I always thought I could do and now it's a reality. It's also exciting because as a producer I've been mass producing music in a room with no windows for 35 years. New York theater culture and slowly learning the basics, and I'm not afraid of that."
